This famous prerelease MOTHER press video was translated by Tomato many years ago. Here, Shigesato Itoi introduces MOTHER as an unconventional, but relatable RPG that takes place in the modern day. He asks that the player please take their time playing through it, as there’s many “extras” to be found in the form of secret places or funny dialogue!

A release trailer showing Ninten, Ana, and Lloyd at Mt. Itoi. In front of them is a large robot, presumingly the R7037 (seeing the robot is colored silver). Ninten and Ana use their combined power of PSI to take out this robot down, while in the background you can hear the song “Eight Melodies” being sung. This trailer is probably one of, if not the most iconic MOTHER-related video.

This recording of a panel discussion between Shigesato Itoi, Yuji Horii, Koichi Nakamura and Seiko Ito came from a Famimaga video. MOTHER is briefly discussed, as it released the day before this event! Translations to come soon!

On June 14th, 2015 MOTHER was announced for the Wii U Virtual Console under the name “EarthBound Beginnings”. This message from Shigesato Itoi was played live at the Nintendo World Championships just before the event began. Here, he reflects on the legacy of the series and how it’s affected people over the world, as well as explaining his reasoning behind the official North American title! Spoiler alert: It’s because it came out before EarthBound.
