We founded Mother Forever with a lot of passion, hope, and determination in January 2020. It wasn’t meant to become a big new thing for the community, just a new resource for fans to come back to once in a while. It’s been through its fair share of ups and downs since it began, but maybe it can mature into something really great. Thanks for being a part of the journey! “A Lego EarthBound Set Approaches?” by Echoes – 3/19/2020

Over the years, many passionate MOTHER fans have reimagined their favourite characters and set pieces from the trilogy in LEGO form. While our imaginations have been set to roam free, there has never officially existed a building-brick MOTHER set in the limelight…until now! The website LEGO Ideas, which allows fans to propose new and exciting products to the company itself, has presented an EarthBound LEGO set, and it’s recently been gaining a lot of traction!

“The Hobonichi MOTHER Project” by Kody NOKOLO – 4/30/2020

Hobonichi has begun their brand new Hobonichi MOTHER Project! Watch my translation of the project’s announcement to hear more about their upcoming MOTHER book. In addition to the book, it seems like new content and merchandise are on their way, according to Shigesato Itoi himself!

“Pollyanna: Hobonichi’s MOTHER Comic Book” by Kody NOKOLO – 5/19/2020

Hobonichi announced part one of the Hobonichi MOTHER Project: a comic book dedicated to MOTHER called Pollyanna! Watch my translation of the announcement below to see what will be included in the book. 35 artists have drawn for the book including the artist for MOTHER 3, Nobuhiro Imagawa, and the creator of UNDERTALE, Toby Fox.

“MOTHER 3’s First Announcement – Interview with Satoru Iwata, July 1996” by Kody NOKOLO – 7/7/2020

The very first interview about MOTHER 3 has been discovered in the July 1996 issue of Dengeki Nintendo 64! Satoru Iwata gives his impressions on the series and discusses what this MOTHER on the Nintendo 64 will be like, how it will be similar to the rest of the series, and what will be different from other entries.

“Ask Iwata & MOTHER 4 – Interview with Shigesato Itoi, Nov. 2019” by Kody NOKOLO – 7/10/2020

In November 2019, Shigesato Itoi was interviewed about Iwata-San (localized in English as Ask Iwata), a book published by Hobonichi that compiles the words of Satoru Iwata. Itoi talks about his time with Iwata and explores what MOTHER 4 could’ve been like, even though he wouldn’t make another MOTHER game himself.

Last year, Hobonichi published a book about Satoru Iwata simply called Iwata-San. Today, VIZ Media has announced they will be publishing the book for a release outside of Japan as Ask Iwata.

“A MOTHER 64 Demo Retrospective with IGN’s Chief Editor” by Echoes – 9/9/2020

Twenty years ago when MOTHER 64 was playable at Spaceworld, IGN had a chance to play the demo and report on it. A review was written by IGN’s Entertainment Chief Content Officer, Peer Schneider, and for many years has served as one of the most enlightening pieces on how the game played. Today, two whole decades later, MOTHER community member PolyGarrett was given the honour of conducting an interview with Peer, reflecting on his thoughts and experience playing MOTHER 64.

“The Strange Case of Aoki’s Yottore: Cut MOTHER 64 Species” by Echoes – 9/23/2020

Ever since MOTHER 3 released on the Game Boy Advance on April 20th, 2006, the most curious MOTHER fans have pondered on what cut content might have been left behind on the Nintendo 64. For those unaware, the third entry in the MOTHER series was originally conceived for the Nintendo 64, and was in development for six years before being canceled on August 22nd, 2000. While the story and characters remained unchanged between the two versions, many details were revised or completely cut out. One particular example would be the disappearance of Nana’s father, Papa, who never returned from a voyage out to sea.

17 years ago, during the promotion of MOTHER 1+2, Shigesato Itoi posted parts of his “Mr. Saturn Translation Course” on Hobonichi. On September 30th, Itoi began a new series of posts about writing like Mr. Saturn!

On August 17th, The Hobonichi Mother Project announced that there would be themed merchandise on their store page, starting on August 24th. Now that the merch has been released, we can take a closer look at some of the items and see what they are as well as any interesting details they have!

“MOTHER Music Revisited Announced for 2021” by Echoes – 12/2/2020

It’s not every day a brand new MOTHER album is announced, is it? While 2020 has been a difficult year for most, the team behind the MOTHER series has brightened our days between all of the trials and tribulations. We were first delighted with the announcement of the “Hobonichi MOTHER Project” back in April, and since then we’ve been graced with a treasure trove of new merchandise, as well as a comic book! Of course, it doesn’t stop there — as of the 28th of November, a brand new album titled “MOTHER Music Revisited” was announced.

As the Hobonichi Mother Project keeps developing, there’s been an influx of new releases and news to keep track of, ranging from new merchandise pieces to themed events, and even physical pop-up shops dedicated to the Mother series. As the title suggests though, here, we’ll be focusing on the more recent merchandise releases, and looking to find some new information about them.
