Ninten is a twelve year-old boy from the small city of Podunk. He is a courageous child who displays characteristics of leadership among his peers, usually being the first pick for his school’s baseball team. Ninten can also be found playing with his dog Mick, who he communicates with through telepathy. Though he may not understand it, he is one of the few humans capable of the mysterious psychic ability “PSI.”. He has a special connection to animals, one of his favorite hobbies being the study of penguins after he met one at the local zoo. Ninten’s greatest weakness is his violent asthma which often occurs when he is exposed to exhaust gas, but he manages to stay motivated and brave nevertheless in any challenging situation.

Though he may seem meek and unassuming, Lloyd is an intellectually gifted child. From a very young age, he showed both signs of intelligence and introversion, spending most of his time reading his father’s copy of “The Theory of Relativity”. This began Lloyd’s admiration for Albert Einstein, which introduced him to the world of science. Lloyd is adept in the field of mechanics, as he is able to fix almost any broken item simply by examining it. Despite all these valuable qualities, Lloyd isn’t well-liked at elementary school, as he chooses to isolate himself from his peers out of fear of being bullied. If one were determined to gain his friendship, they would have to prove their trust by doing him a great favor.

Held as the pride and joy among the community of the mountain town Snowman, Ana is a kind, considerate girl who many of the younger children look up to as a second mother. Her father is a well-respected pastor, with Ana herself keeping always keeping a pocket bible on hand. Ana’s primary shortcoming is her lack of courage, but her faith, as well as her support from others, helps keep her confident. Like Ninten, her psychic powers are awakened, being able to conjure great offensive spells.

Teddy is an infamous gang leader in the bustling city of Ellay. He became the leader of the delinquent “Bla-Bla” Gang at the age of fourteen, inspiring other rebellious teenagers through his defiant behavior. Teddy wasn’t always abrasive, however, as he displayed high intellect from a young age. His life changed for the worse when his parents traveled to Mt. Itoi only to have their life taken, leaving Teddy bitter as he was left to raise himself. Even though he may be the leader of the Bla-Bla Gang, Teddy prefers to spend time alone playing his guitar as he peacefully hums along to the chords. Deep inside, there is still remnants of a gentle, enlightened individual trying to find his place in the world.

The main antagonist of MOTHER. He comes from a race of beings who had the power of PSI and abducted humans for unknown reasons between 1900 and 198X. As a child, Giegue (later known as Giygas) was raised by Ninten’s grandparents, George and Maria, after they had been abducted.

The benevolent ruler of Magicant, a mystical kingdom seemingly beyond the fabric of time and space. She entrusts Ninten with the duty of recovering her scattered eight melodies so she may remember a long-forgotten tune.

Ninten’s next-door neighbor who has a strong sense of independence and adventure. She tends to wander off alone, leaving her mother in anguish over her disappearance.
