Ocarina of Time Interview, MOTHER Zine, Orchestra, & New MOTHER 64 Scans

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Interview is live!

In case you haven’t read it yet, we’ve updated our Hobonichi Interviews section to include a full translation of the site’s coverage of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. These were originally published in the months leading up to the game’s release, and were translated by GlitterBerri. You can learn a lot of interesting development tidbits, like how Link could originally breathe underwater for longer?! Man, that would’ve saved us a lot of childhood stress in navigating the Water Temple, huh?

Read more about it here!

Contributors Wanted For “Your Name, Please” Zine!

MOTHER Power Issue 1, providing survey results on what kind of content fans would like to see in the zine!

Every once in a while the MOTHER fandom gets together to collaborate on a zine. You may remember the Psychokinetic zine that was produced along with the “You are Now EarthBound” fundraiser. It’s a great way for artists to collaborate and get their work in print, and there’s currently another one in production!

“Your Name, Please!” is a 100 page zine featuring content from all across the MOTHER series, including MOTHER 64. It plans to bring together “20 to 35 artists and up to 5 writers who will contribute page art, comics and narrative pieces with a focus on the characters and series.”

Contributor applications are live right now, and will be open until October 15th. If you have an idea or concept for an art or writing piece you’d like to submit, it is highly recommended you send an application here! We hope to see your work featured, good luck!

MOTHER’s Day Wind Orchestra Incoming!

The band members prepare for a rehearsal session. Everyone say, “Cheese sandwich!”

A live, non-profit fan concert is going to be held at Tokorozawa Civic Cultural Center MUSE on October 1st at 2 PM JST. Organized and conducted by Oniku-sensei, the project is showing a lot of dedication and passion through its extensive website you can find here. The orchestra will not only include wind instruments, but arpeggio keyboards, powerful timpani, and even…live UFO sounds?! They’re going all out!

Their site is publishing interviews with the band members leading up to the event. We’ll make sure to update you following the aftermath. But, for now, please show them your support from overseas.

MOTHER 64 Scan Updates Incoming, and…a new image?!

Earlier in the year, a great batch of press materials were sent to our good friend Tony from Hard4Games, courtesy of site Co-Founder and Writer Echoes. These included several issues of Dengeki Nintendo 64, Nintendo Power, and even the Spaceworld ‘99 booklet!

But that’s not all – as other members of the community joined in to send over more magazines too! PineappleCarl and AudreySP contributed more issues of Dengeki and 64 Dream. Although the majority of this material was previously scanned by The National Diet Library of Japan by request of site webmaster Kody NOKOLO, these raw materials will be able to provide a much clearer image for everyone to enjoy (as well as additional content outside of MOTHER.) Check out these previews Tony shared on Twitter (Itoi-san himself even liked the tweet!)

Look out in the near future for a video on the Hard4Games channel covering the scans. And of course, if you’d like to see more scans and study up on why Dengeki Nintendo 64 is so important, this page is sure to come in handy.

But that’s not at all – as there is one more thing to share with you today. While we’ve been preparing more publications to host on the site, community member Mr. Minesplat located a new camera photo of the Spaceworld ‘99 demo! The attached image was found in an issue of Game Players Magazine from September 9th, 1999. It was scanned earlier this year on March 12th and uploaded to the Internet Archive. While it doesn’t really reveal anything new, it’s nice to see a more detailed photo of the demo in action.

“An upper jaw filled with joy, and a lower jaw filled with sorrow…”

If you’re curious about what Mayor Pirkle is telling Flint, it’s the same line from the trailer! Reading, “An upper jaw filled with jow, and a lower jaw filled with sorrow…:”

Hopefully, some more material will surface soon. For now, please look forward to the new scans!
