Years in the making, the latest in Shigesato Itoi’s superb RPG series was finally shown publicly. (Previously, the title was shown only on video.) The sequel to the criminally overlooked Earthbound (Mother 2), Mother 3 — The Pig King’s Fall — features several main characters who take on lead roles in different chapters. The tale starts with the discovery of a mysterious object in an inlet. After the discovery, the peaceful village of the cast is beset by abnormal incidents including terrifying shrieks from a nearby forest. To solve the mystery and restore peace, the heroes set out on a challenging journey of adventure and discovery. The playable demo showed the long wait to be worthwhile with beautiful cut scenes and excellent play mechanics. The demo version also featured dialog made specifically for Space World such as, “Space World is on today, so it’s really noisy.” One happy visitor remarked, “This Mother 3 can be played only at Space World. That’s a rare treat!” Our sentiments exactly.
