Today, I have scans of two interviews to share! First, an interview with Itoi from the summer of MOTHER 3‘s release year that digs into spoilers about the game. This interview was already translated by Clyde Mandelin, but now we have full scans of it all! Find those on our page for that interview. Second, an interview with Brownie Brown from 2013 about their company legacy with a focus on Fantasy Life, and it even includes an image of their rough-draft GBA redesigns for Lucas, Claus, what may be Tazmily with a few character sprites, and more! I had time to translate a few notable moments from their interview.

A few days ago, community member PineappleCarl discovered concept art posted over a year ago or more by MOTHER 3 Event and Battle Designer Akiyuki Suzuki on their Twitter page! There were even a couple development notes in their previous posts that I’ve translated below.
In addition to those awesome finds, MOTHER 3 Artist Nobuhiro Imagawa posted more drawings of the characters to celebrate the game’s 16th anniversary last week! Check them out if you haven’t seen them yet!!
Happy 16th anniversary to MOTHER 3! Today, I have scans of an interview to share that was already known, but never was scanned in full. There’s even more information than what was known too! Now, I can finally share the whole interview here with all its images and extra information. Unfortunately, I don’t have the time again for a full translation myself, but I did work on a summary of at least two pages. Hopefully I or someone else can finish more in the future!
Game Geniuses Book Scans
The second in my series of weekly scan releases until the 2022 Mother Direct is Game Geniuses ’98: a book filled with images of and information about various game developers. Satoshi Tajiri, Yuji Horii, Gunpei Yokoi, Shigesato Itoi, and so many more are all featured!
Famicom 4koma MOTHER Manga Scans
I just finished uploading brand new, high quality scans of all the MOTHER parts from Famicom 4koma Manga Kingdom 1, and I also included translations of a couple pages! I don’t have time for more yet, but now they’re uploaded if anyone else wants to try it. Enjoy!
Nintendo’s 2.9.2022 Nintendo Direct featured the announcement of not just one, but two MOTHER games releasing on the Nintendo Switch! Now MOTHER, EarthBound Beginnings, MOTHER 2, and EarthBound are all playable through Nintendo Switch Online. And, before the Direct, Hard4Games released a new 1995 interview with Shigesato Itoi!
The 2022 MOTHER 3 Music Package
After the sad news of YouTube music uploader GilvaSunner’s MOTHER 3 playlist being blocked by Nintendo along with most of GilvaSunner’s other uploads, we finished finalizing our own complete, high-quality MOTHER 3 rips of all the game’s music and sound effects!
Hobonichi Meets Fangamer
Fangamer, a company full of many original MOTHER community members from the legendary Starmen.net, took a trip to Japan in 2016, where they met Hobonichi at their office! There’s even some video of it out there, courtesy of StephenVlog. Fangamer’s reactions to that trip are pretty well-documented in that video and beyond, but there hasn’t been anything (as far as we know, at least) posted online about it from Hobonichi’s perspective. Luckily, one of those Starmen.net veterans, Mrtenda, found Hobonichi’s reaction in a 2017 Hobonichi Guidebook from the good ol’ days and sent the book over to be scanned and translated!
Toby Fox’s First Pollyanna Comic
Hobonichi recently released two MOTHER series comic books called Pollyanna and Pollyanna 2. I plan to translate many of the comics featured in these books and post them to our Pollyanna Comic Books page, so stay tuned for more translations in the future!!
This is a translation of Toby Fox’s comic featured on page 122 of the first Pollyanna. This is meant to be a companion to the book, so get yours out (or get one from the Hobonichi website, they ship worldwide) and follow along!
Interviews about MOTHER 3 with Shigesato Itoi and Satoru Iwata from February, March, and July 1997 have been discovered from issues of the Dengeki Nintendo 64 magazine! All these interviews discuss the game in its initial stages, and July’s interview also includes some discussion about the Nintendo 64 Disk Drive.
