MOTHER 25th Anniversary

The new intro logo at the start of the game. Really flashy!

MOTHER 25th Anniversary Edition aimed to make the original MOTHER more enjoyable for fans who enjoyed MOTHER 2 and a redux of MOTHER.

Every single enemy sprite, NPC sprite, and titles were all completely redrawn from scratch to be more faithful to the original clay models used to market the game, which can be found on our official art page. Some of them were purposely made to be far more goofy or creepy looking, and things such as the title screen were adjusted to be more pretty and pleasing to the eye.

The overworld from MOTHER has been tweaked and rearranged to be less repetitive and bleak, while also to prevent the player from getting lost along the way. There is more scenery and other specific areas to give the game a much more colorful look that is charming and respectful in its own definitive way. Areas such as Duncan’s Factory were also adjusted to be less confusing, while areas such as the Cemetery and Snowman have been expanded a bit.

Under the hood, enemies will have slightly more experience points and money dropped upon being defeated, as well as the enemy encounter rate being calmly adjusted to be less annoying. The “Dangerous Foe” song is also used a lot less, and party members will be met at a much higher level rather than level 1 when you first meet them.

This patch uses Tomato’s MOTHER 1+2 translation patch, which was adapted for the NES. Over 1,400 different lines of text were altered to create connections with the rest of the series as well as improved clarity and time shortened overall. The battle text was also adjusted by livvy94, which made battles progress nearly twice as fast as the original.
